5. Selling Human Remains Without a Permit

Selling human remains without a permit is not just strange—it’s a serious crime. In the U.S., it’s illegal to sell or trade human bones, organs, or other remains unless the sale has been approved by appropriate authorities. The Human Tissue Act and other regulations strictly control the sale of body parts to prevent illegal trafficking and protect public health.

While you might think this type of crime is the stuff of horror stories or underground black markets, it’s a real federal crime. Selling human remains for profit can lead to significant penalties, including criminal charges and years in prison.
